The Department of Sociology annually organizes a Memorial Day Lecture to commemorate the late Professor R.N.Ranaweera Banda who has made a great contribution to the Department of Sociology as well as to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Ruhuna. The lecture was held on 17th December 2019 at Ranaweera Banda Memorial Hall, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The guest lecture was delivered by Professor Sisira Pinnawala of University of Peradeniya on “Making the Subaltern Voice Heard”. Vice chancellor, Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena was the chief guest of the event and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Saman Chandana Ediriweera was the guest of honour. Professor Ranaweera Banda was commemorated at the event and his family members were also present on the occasion. It was successfully held with the participation of a large number of students and other academics.
