The Department of Sociology organized a field study based on the Sea Indigenous Community in Vahare –Battiacloa. This study was conducted with the collaboration of Navel Basis in Batticaloa. The third-year students took part in this program and they studied the social, economic and cultural characteristics of sea indigenous people and their contemporary social issues as well. This study was conducted for three days and students identified that it is important to explore the social and cultural values of sea indigenous people, as a specific minor community in Sri Lanka.
