Candidates applying for the Master of Arts programmes shall have: A recognized degree in a relevant field accepted by the Faculty and approved by the Senate OR The Associate Membership, Graduate-ship (as appropriate) or equivalent of a recognized professional institute in a relevant field with a minimum of one year of appropriate experience after obtaining such membership accepted to the Faculty and approved by the Senate.

The medium of instruction in lectures, tutorials and laboratory classes in the program leading to Master of Arts program is Sinhala/English, like in all other courses offered by the University of Ruhuna.

MA in Economics is a two semester (2 years) part-time degree programme consisting course work spread over two semester.

Master of Arts in Geography

MA in Economics is a two semester (2 years) part-time degree programme consisting course work spread over two semester.Assessmet consist of continuous assessment followed by a final examination.

MA in Sinhala is a two semester (2 years) part-time degree programme consisting three writen papers and a viva-voce on the dissertation.

The postgraduate course leading to Master of Philosophy is expected to submit a standard thesis based on the result of empirical research that will be conducted under the guidance of the supervisor appointed by the University. The candidate is awarded the degree if he/she passes the dissertation and the oral examination.
