Under the theme of “Spirit of sprouting researchers of tomorrow” the Ruhuna Arts Students’ Annual Sessions (RASAS) is scheduled to be held on August 21, 2018 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Ruhuna.


Call for papers for the Ruhuna University International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (RUICHSS) 2018 is now open. The conference is scheduled to be held on March 29-30, 2018 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Ruhuna under the theme, “Ethics, Morality and Spirituality in Globalized Society”.

Re-opening of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will be re-opening on June 21, 2018. The students who have hostel facilities are allowed in hostels on June 20, 2018 from 3.00 p.m.
ERF News
Environmental Researchers’ Forum (ERF) conducted a tree plantation campaign at the Wellamadama main university premises on January 26, 2018 with the participation of many students, staff members and a few forest officers. More than 100 plants have been planted and there was a huge interest among students towards this. The ERF website was launched by Senior Professor P. Hewage, the Head of the Department of Geography. Dr Pradeep Nalaka Ranasinghe was the key speaker at the event.

Sandata Wedi Dura Sandak


The poetry book, Sandata Wedi Dura Sandak written by Mrs Eradhini Hasini Lanka, a probationary lecturer attached to the Department of Sinhala, has been launched on October 28, 2017 at the National Library and Documentation Services Board auditorium. The event was graced by Professor Dharma Rajapaksha, Head of the Department of Sinhala, University of Ruhuna.


The launching of the second volume of the Awalokana Shasthreeya Sangrahaya was held on September 7, 2017 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Auditorium, University of Ruhuna. The chief guest was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna. The History and Archaeology Society of the Department of History and Archaeology publishes this annual research journal.

Geography News


President of Sri Lanka has declared Waratenna-Hakkinda area in the Kandy district as an Environmental Protection Area under Section 24C of the National Environmental Act (NEA). This was a result of a six year struggle by a group of activists including Dr. H.I.G.C. Kumara and Mr. M.S.M.L. Karunarathne at the Department of Geography who developed a strategy to get this area protected under the NEA.
